For those of you who have followed me for a while… this face will be pretty familiar! I met Wesley at his family session when I first moved back to Michigan and started shooting full time. Since then I have watched him grow year by year as we meet in the fall for family pics (don’t get any crazy ideas, I gave up family sessions a few years ago!) This year Wesley becomes a senior at Goodrich High School and his sister starts her journey there as a freshman. (You’ve seen her around this year as a member of The BSC Elite.) Having been put in front of my lens for years, I think he’s the only guy I’ve shot that was prepared with exactly what he wanted, so that’s what we did! From the Flint Institute of Music, to a local Flint overpass, and to the Goodrich High School Stadium, we covered all of his favorite places. As you can tell a huge part of his life centers in his love of music. I hope that never fades.

Which was your favorite look?

I loved the Hamilton shirt with the jacket and jeans. And I loved having my Looney Tunes converse in so many pictures.

What was your favorite thing about your session?

Possibly disrupting some sort of fancy dinner at the Flint Institute of Music with the Harp performance.

What do you think makes blacksheepchic different than other photographers?

Leslie wanted to capture who I am as a person. She knew my mother wanted me to be someone I’m not in the photos, and she wasn’t OK with that. She wanted to capture me.

What school Clubs/Activities are you involved in?

I’ve been in school band since 5th grade. My parents had wanted me to try it out, and I ended up loving it. Since then, I joined the Flint Youth Wind Ensemble in 7th grade as the youngest member in history. Then, in 8th grade, I joined the Flint Central Church of the Nazarene Orchestra as, yet again, the youngest member in history. Once I got into high school, I joined the Marching Band. I also ended up having the first chair alto sax spot in the concert band. In addition, I started up a Saxophone Quartet with some friends, called The Rose Quartet. We perform paid gigs for many organizations, such as The Daughters of the American Revolution. In my Junior Year, I joined the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra as the principal saxophone, also known as the only saxophone. I also became the Section Leader in the Marching Band for the Alto Saxes. Throughout High School, I have also been a member of many Honors Bands, such as the U of M Flint Honors Band, and the District 3 Honors Band. I have also earned straight one’s at the district and state level of Solo and Ensemble since 7th grade. In 10th grade, I began to write music, as well. I’ve written many arrangements for small ensembles, such as Clarinet Quartets, and Saxophone Quartets. I’ve also been active in Boy Scouts since 5th grade, and I’m almost to my Eagle Scout. In addition, I joined my school’s Science Olympiad team this past year, and had a great time with my friends.

What are your current plans after graduation?

I’d like to attend the University of Michigan Flint Campus to major in Music Education and minor in English. I’d also like to take as many Music Theory and Composition classes as possible throughout my college years.

Why did you choose blacksheepchic?

Leslie is a family friend who has been taking our family pictures for many years.

What are you most looking forward to your Senior Year?

All seniors have to do what is called a “Capstone Project”, which is basically a large community service done by the senior as a last goodbye to the school. For my Capstone Project, I will be leading an Honors Band after school, where we will be playing some of the hardest music ever written for bands. The good news about this is, all of my friends are the top players in the school, so not only do I get all of the highest achieving players in the school, they’re all my friends.
