Emily DeCoster
Though it was chilly, we could not have had a better fall day for Emily’s session here in Bay City! I completely fell in love with this girl, another mini-me from my high school days. Full of fun, laughs, and adventure, we made this happen! Can’t wait to see where she goes. I just know that she could take the world by storm!
What school Clubs/Activities are you involved in?
In school I’m involved in the marching band’s color guard, the bowling team, and the annual musicals! Music has been my happy place and my outlet for as long as I can remember, and this year I was lucky enough to be selected as the color guard captain. Working alongside the drum major (who doubles as my best friend), we’ve created an awesome marching show that I am extremely proud of! I am also the captain of the bowling team this year. My father has been a bowler since he was young, so I guess this one just runs in the blood. As for musicals, I’m just a big nerd. I adore musical theatre. In the 7th grade I thought it would be fun to audition for the play that year, “Beauty and The Beast.” I had no idea I’d fall absolutely in love with the theatre program and get casted as several leading roles throughout my school career. Some of the most notable characters I’ve played are Princess Fiona in “Shrek The Musical,” Grace Ferrell in “Annie,” and Alex The Lion in “Madagascar.” This year I have been cast as The Genie in “Aladdin!” I’m very excited for this role! Showtimes are November 17th at 7 PM and 18th at 3 PM in the Reese High School auditorium, come check us out!
Why did you choose blacksheepchic?
I chose blacksheepchic because a friend of mine went to Leslie and I thought her pictures turned out absolutely beautiful! I was drawn to the colors of the clothing and the unique locations the pictures were captured. Leslie managed to make all of her seniors look like models, and as soon as I saw that I knew I needed to select her!
What are you most looking forward to your Senior Year?
This year I am most looking forward to the leadership positions I have been given. Marching band is nearing the end, but leading this color guard has been one of my greatest life experiences. I have truly grown so much and developed such valuable skills from this role I was actually forced into! Color guard captains are selected by seniority, but I’m truly grateful for the opportunity. I am also looking forward to the bowling season. I hope I can influence the bowlers in the same way I influenced the guard members.
What do you think makes blacksheepchic different than other photographers?
Blacksheepchic is different from other photographers because she allows you to truly be yourself. I had another photographer do a session before blacksheepchic and although they did a good job, the personal touch was missing. Leslie wanted to capture those dance breaks I took, she wanted me to wear whatever I like, and she even allowed me to wear super dark lipstick. I was certainly not expecting that; dark lips in senior photos is a bit taboo, but I feel like they represent who I am so I’m truly glad I was allowed to display them. The whole session was so much fun! Leslie played music the whole time and cracked jokes. I feel like she was not just my photographer, but my friend. I would highly recommend her!
Which was your favorite look?
My favorite look was definitely the one with the dark lipstick. I thought that it was delightfully edgy and displayed my personality well!
What are your current plans after graduation?
I am pretty sure I’m going to go into the police force after high school. It took me a very long time to decide on a career, but I always knew I’d hate an office job and that I needed to be around people. More specifically, I knew I wanted to help people. I think that the negative energy surrounding cops is truly sad, and I want to help eliminate that. I had a teacher tell me I’m not mean enough to be a cop, but I don’t believe that’s what police work is about. I am strong willed and caring, and I think those traits would shape a significantly better officer than meanness would.
What was your favorite thing about your session?
I loved the locations we picked! I thought that everywhere we went was unique and fit the theme of whatever look I was wearing. I am an adventurer at heart, so I loved all the new places I was introduced to!
